Richard Bloomfield and Ron Allan

Richard Bloomfield, the 18 year old from Alpington took the top title in the British Junior game when he won the National 18 and under championships at Nottingham by defeating top seed and arch rival Alex Bogdanovic of Middlesex 6-4, 6-4 in the final. Richard is the first Norfolk winner since John Baker in 1959.

Richard started his career in short tennis and came through the N.L.T.A. ranks, always supported by Martin Smith and particularly by his faithful mentor Ron Allan (pictured above). He has had a momentous year, gaining Junior ITF ranking points, playing at Junior Wimbledon and winning a Senior Girobank Tour Event at Ilkley. He has supported his county in the Inter-County Championships and is now leaving the junior ranks behind him and looking forward to playing in Satellite Events to gain senior world ranking points. He has conquered as a junior and this determined, modest young man looks set to go far.

At the end of last year Richard gave notice of his prodigious burgeoning talent when he reached the quarter finals of the Senior National Championships before being felled by illness.
